The Summer of 2008 launched the building of 8 duplexes for 16 families. With the partnership of Habitat for Humanity and Armenian Relief and Development, LWH was able to begin construction in the city of Vanadzor. Habitat for Humanity and ARDA selected eligible families living in Russian shipping containers to participate in the daily work of their own home. Working together, LWH volunteers, local builders, and selected families, the construction of 8 duplexes was completed. The joy on the families faces was unexplainable. To know that they finally had a real home and now longer had to worry about the cold in well below zero temperatures gave us true satisfaction in our work.
Experiencing a new culture is always a highlight for us. Although language can often prove to be a barrier in building relationships with locals, sharing a meal always seems to draw us closer. Sometimes that meal can be an adventure in itself, but nonetheless, it makes that trip all the more exciting.
